Data sharding definition
WebFeature Definition; Data Sharding: Data sharding is an effective way to deal with massive data storage and computing. ShardingSphere provides a distributed database solution based on the underlying database, which can scale computing and storage horizontally. A database shard, or simply a shard, is a horizontal partition of data in a database or search engine. Each shard is held on a separate database server instance, to spread load. Some data within a database remains present in all shards, but some appear only in a single shard. Each shard (or server) acts as the single source for this subset of data.

WebMay 26, 2024 · Data sharding is a common way of implementing horizontal scaling. Database sharding divides the table records in a database into smaller portions. Each section is a shard, and is stored on a different server. The database can be divided into shards based on different methods.
